20250926             European countries fear that US President Donald Trump will blame them for Kiev's military failures, The Financial Times reported.
20250926             The newspaper noted that Trump has spent months trying to force Ukraine to recognize the territories it has lost to Russia.
20250926             However, Trump recently changed his rhetoric.
20250926             In a post on his Truth Social page, he wrote that Kiev was allegedly "in a position to fight and win all of Ukraine back in its original form" with the support of the EU.
20250926             Several European officials have speculated that Trump intends to shift responsibility for Ukraine's defense to Europe.
20250926             According to a German official who spoke with The Financial Times, the US leader has set the bar very high.
20250926             Another source believes that Trump is preparing an exit strategy so that he can blame Europe for failure when and if necessary.
20250926             According to the newspaper's sources, EU leaders have concluded that Trump is no longer a "reliable ally".
20250926             At the same time, Trump's position was received positively in a number of cabinets, the newspaper pointed out.

20250926             MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/.
20250926             Moscow is currently awaiting Washington’s response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal on the future of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START); all participants in the Global Atomic Forum held within World Atomic Week welcomed the initiative, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on the sidelines of the event.
20250926             "Overall, everyone welcomes Russia’s approach and Putin’s initiative.
20250926             So we’re waiting for the other side’s reaction," he said.
20250926             START III, or New START, set limits on the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles, certain other missiles, and nuclear warheads for Russia and the United States.
20250926             In February 2023, President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow was suspending its participation in the accord, though not withdrawing from it.
20250926             Both sides indicated their intention to continue voluntarily observing the treaty’s central quantitative restrictions until its expiration.
20250926             On September 22, Putin told a meeting of the Security Council that Russia is prepared to abide by these restrictions for one year after the treaty expires in February 2026.
20250926             He stressed, however, that this would only be possible if Washington does the same.

20250926             BERLIN, September 26. /TASS/.
20250926             Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev said all of Moscow’s initiatives regarding the investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines were ignored.
20250926             "Exactly three years have passed since terrorist acts were committed against the Nord Stream pipelines.
20250926             For three years, the global community has not been informed about the perpetrators and masterminds of the unprecedented sabotage acts against the largest element of the European gas infrastructure.
20250926             Western countries, which are usually quick to pronounce baseless ‘guilty’ verdicts against Russia, remain surprisingly slow on the issue, expressing full and unconditional trust in German prosecutors, and urging to let them do their work without hindrance," the ambassador said in a comment.
20250926             The Russian diplomat went on to say that Russia, from the very outset, has insisted on an international inquiry into the attack, urging to join forces and let Russian experts take part in the investigation.
20250926             "All our initiatives were ignored.
20250926             Multiple requests for legal assistance remain unanswered.
20250926             This makes us doubt the objectiveness, impartiality and transparency of the ongoing investigation," the ambassador added.
20250926             He dismissed media speculations that the terror attack was committed by unidentified Ukrainian amateur divers as "unconvincing".
20250926             The diplomat also reminded that apart from huge financial losses and the destruction of pipelines which took many years to build, the attack led to the largest recorded transient anthropogenic methane emission event, and resulted in enormous environmental damage.
20250926             "Such actions must not go unpunished, no matter who committed them," the Russian ambassador said.
20250926             Nord Stream sabotage
20250926             On September 26, 2022, three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines sustained enormous damage.
20250926             The latter had not yet been put into operation.
20250926             According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Moscow is certain that the Nord Stream sabotage was carried out with US support.
20250926             The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has opened an investigation into an act of international terrorism.
20250926             The Die Zeit newspaper reported that German investigators had reportedly identified all the saboteurs behind the explosions that damaged the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.
20250926             According to a probe by Die Zeit, the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper and ARD television, German law enforcement agencies have identified seven suspects and issued arrest warrants for six Ukrainian nationals, while the seventh individual died in December 2024 during military operations in eastern Ukraine.
20250926             The probe also confirmed suspicions that the saboteurs could have carried out the terrorist attack with support from the Ukrainian authorities.

20250926             Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed the situation around Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during their meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
20250926             "A detailed discussion on the most pressing international problems, including the situation around Ukraine and in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone, took place," the statement reads.
20250926             According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov also underscored the importance of the UN Secretariat’s "unbiased and equidistant approach" to the subject, in accordance with Article 100 of the UN Charter.
20250926             They also addressed "pressing issues of the global organization’s reform  in the context of the UN secretary-general’s UN80 initiative".
20250926             Lavrov underscored that the changes should be well-calibrated, and preserve the organization’s institutional framework.
20250926             In his view, changes should "be carried out under the strict control of the member states and enjoy their broadest possible support," the ministry said.
20250926             Russia and the United Nations also expressed their firm determination to strengthen cooperation.
20250926             "The Russian side underscored its commitment to the global organization’s central coordinating role in global affairs, and to UN Charter’s principles in their entirety," the ministry said.

20250926             Statements about NATO countries' readiness to shoot down Russian military aircraft for allegedly violating the alliance's airspace are irresponsible, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
20250926             Commenting on a Bloomberg report that diplomats from the UK, Germany, and France had met with Russian officials to protest alleged violations of Polish and Estonian airspace and to warn of their readiness to shoot down Russian aircraft, the spokesman said: "I don't even want to talk about this.
20250926             It's a very irresponsible statement.
20250926             It's very irresponsible because the accusations against Russia that its military aircraft violated someone's airspace and invaded someone else's one are groundless.
20250926             No convincing evidence of this has been presented".
20250926             Reporters asked Peskov to comment on Bloomberg's report that, at a closed meeting, Russian representatives allegedly admitted to violating the airspace of Western countries in response to strikes on Crimea".
20250926             Ask Bloomberg where they got this information," the Kremlin spokesman responded.
20250926             Earlier, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said that the country's authorities had requested consultations with NATO members in accordance with Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty regarding the alleged airspace violation.
20250926             Prior to that, Estonian authorities claimed that, on the morning of September 19, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated Estonian airspace.
20250926             In turn, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that Russian MiG-31 fighter jets did not violate Estonian airspace.
20250926             According to the ministry, the jets carried out a scheduled flight from Karelia to the Kaliningrad Region.
20250926             In a statement, the ministry said the flight was conducted in strict accordance with international airspace rules, without violating the borders of other states, which is confirmed by objective monitoring.
20250926             During the flight, the Russian aircraft did not deviate from the agreed flight path and did not violate Estonian airspace, the ministry emphasized.

20250926             A million-year-old human skull suggests that the origins of modern humans may reach back far deeper in time than previously thought and raises the possibility that Homo sapiens first emerged outside of Africa.
20250926             Leading scientists reached this conclusion after reanalysis of a skull known as Yunxian 2 discovered in China and previously classified as belonging to a member of the primitive human species Homo erectus.
20250926             After applying sophisticated reconstruction techniques to the skull, scientists believe that it may instead belong to a group called Homo longi (dragon man), closely linked to the elusive Denisovans who lived alongside our own ancestors.
20250926             This repositioning would make the fossil the closest on record to the split between modern humans and our closest relatives, the Neanderthals and Denisovans, and would radically revise understanding of the last 1m years of human evolution.
20250926             “This changes a lot of thinking because it suggests that by 1m years ago our ancestors had already split into distinct groups, pointing to a much earlier and more complex human evolutionary split than previously believed.
20250926             It more or less doubles the time of origin of Homo sapiens.”
20250926             The latest work used advanced CT imaging, high-resolution surface scanning and sophisticated digital techniques to produce a virtual reconstruction of the skull.
20250926             The skull’s large, squat brain case and jutting lower jaw are reminiscent of Homo erectus.
20250926             But the overall shape and size of the brain case and teeth appear to place it much closer to Homo longi, a species that scientists have recently argued should incorporate the Denisovans.
20250926             “This fossil is the closest we’ve got to the ancestor of all those groups,” Stringer said.
20250926             A computational analysis of a wider selection of fossils suggests that in the last 800,000 years, large-brained humans evolved along just five major branches: Asian erectus, heidelbergensis, sapiens, Neanderthals and Homo longi (including the Denisovans).
20250926             “We feel that this study is a landmark step towards resolving the ‘muddle in the middle’ [the confusing array of human fossils from between 1m and 300,000 years ago] that has preoccupied palaeoanthropologists for decades,” Stringer said.
20250926             The findings run counter to some recent analyses based on genetic comparisons of living humans and ancient DNA, meaning the conclusions are likely to be contentious.

20250926             The Foreign Ministry of Poland recommended its citizens to urgently leave Belarus and refrain from travelling to the country, the Polish Embassy in Minsk said.
20250926             "The Foreign Ministry recommends refraining from all visits to the Republic of Belarus  and calls upon Polish citizens, who are now in the Republic of Belarus, to immediately leave its territory," the embassy said.
20250926             The embassy explained recommendations by the tense situation on the border and what it described as arbitrary arrests of Polish citizens.
20250926             Poland closed all previously operational border crossings with Belarus overnight on September 12. In addition to the passenger transport checkpoint in Terespol, traffic ceased at the "Kukuryki-Kozlovichi" freight checkpoint and three railway crossings: "Kuznica Bialostocka"-"Grodno," "Siemianowka"-"Svisloch," and "Terespol"-"Brest".
20250926             The decision was announced on September 9 by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who linked the move to Belarus and Russia holding their joint Zapad 2025 exercises, held on September 12-16.
20250926             Overnight to September 25, Poland reopened the border, allowing traffic to its territory.

20250926             The harsh statements that US President Donald Trump has recently made about Russia are a negotiating tactic, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with TASS.
20250926             "I think this is a tactic, a strategy, a political maneuver for talks," the diplomat said.
20250926             On September 23, during a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Trump responded affirmatively when asked by reporters whether NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they violate their airspace.
20250926             When asked to clarify whether the US was prepared to assist its NATO allies in this regard, Trump explained that it "depends on the circumstances".

20250926             Moscow reserves the right to take retaliatory measures if European countries move forward with their illegitimate plans to expropriate Russian assets, the Russian Embassy in London said in a statement.
20250926             "We are closely monitoring the development of these illegitimate plans.

20250926             The diplomatic mission also noted that proposals to use Russian assets to finance "the military needs of the criminal Kiev regime" would only fuel "the continuation of bloodshed".
20250926             "This approach is not just cynical — it is direct evidence of complicity in the crimes committed by Ukrainian militants," the statement concluded.
